We are excited to announce our participation in PRIME (Primary Information and Media Education), an ambitious two-year European project that aims to integrate media and information literacy (MIL) into primary education.
In today's digital age, children aged 6 to 12 are immersed in a rapidly evolving information environment. Disinformation and artificial intelligence make it more urgent than ever to equip the next generations with the tools they need to think critically, identify fake news, and navigate the digital world with resilience. PRIME stems from this need, uniting experts from across Europe to build a systemic, adaptable, and scalable educational solution.
This project brings together a consortium of top-tier partners with complementary vision and expertise. It includes media literacy and fact-checking experts such as Verificat (Spain), Faktabaari (Finland), and Lie Detectors (Belgium). Pilot schools committed to pedagogical innovation, such as the Vedruna Foundation (Spain) and the European School of Helsinki (Finland), are also participating. This cross-sector collaboration allows us to combine technical expertise in combating disinformation with a deep understanding of pedagogy and real-world classroom needs.
Our mission at PRIME is to provide this key educational perspective. We focus on the "how": how to translate complex media literacy concepts into a cross-curricular and adaptable curriculum for children aged 6 to 12, and how to train teachers to become facilitators of this learning. Through this project, we are creating a flexible framework, a toolkit with teaching materials, and a teacher training program that will be tested in ten pilot schools in five countries: Belgium, Spain, Austria, Germany, and Finland.
In these schools, five teachers per center will participate in a "train the trainer" program and then implement media literacy activities in their classrooms. Their valuable feedback will be key to refining the toolkit and ensuring its usability in different contexts. This practical collaboration with the schools ensures a rich exchange of best practices and innovative solutions across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
This collaborative effort aligns with European best practices and key EU strategies, such as the DigComp 2.2 framework and the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027). By contributing to PRIME, we reaffirm our commitment not only to education in Spain, but also to creating a more informed, empowered, and critical European citizenry for the future.
